NURS 363: NURSING RESEARCH

NURS 363: NURSING RESEARCH

This class has been a great introduction to the scientific study of nursing practice. It’s focused on teaching us how to critically assess and use nursing research to make better decisions for our patients. The class covered important topics, like the history of scientific inquiry in nursing, and the skills necessary to understand and apply nursing theory to real-life practice. We explored how to be critical consumers of research—not just reading it but really critiquing it and learning how to incorporate it into our work as professional nurses. This means we are encouraged to use scientific inquiry to make more informed decisions that can improve patient outcomes.

One of the most impactful assignments for me was a paper about the importance of oral health for people experiencing homelessness. Through this, I gained a deeper understanding of how oral hygiene is closely connected to overall health, especially for homeless individuals who often don’t have access to dental care. It really opened my eyes to the barriers they face, and how this lack of access can lead to more serious health issues. This paper taught me how to apply research in nursing practice to advocate for improving patient care and meeting unmet needs. The course has really helped me develop the skills necessary to critique research and use it to make better decisions for my patients, and I’m excited to use this knowledge as I continue my nursing career.
