PHIL 250E: WORLD RELIGIONS BELIEFS & VALUES
Through this course, I was introduced to religious studies, focusing on beliefs, social practices, and cultural expressions of various human religions. I was able to explore multiple world religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, by examining their core doctrines, beliefs, practices, and institutions.

This course offers the opportunity to study the history and culture of major religious traditions, allowing me to explore diverse ways in which religion has shaped human experience across the globe. Through the lens of academic religion, I have gained knowledge about various traditions but also learned different methods of studying religion itself.
During the mid-semester of this course, I chose to write a debatable topic about abortion access. From writing this paper, I gained a deeper understanding of the abortion debate and how religious beliefs and civil rights perspectives shape people’s views. I learned how community influence and religious authority play a big role in forming opinions on abortion. It helped me realize the complexity of how societal norms and religious teachings can impact both personal beliefs and public policies.
