NURS 491: Honors Role Transition
NURS 491: Honors Role Transition
Role Transition has been such an exciting and transformative journey! This class is a blend of both professional development activities in the lecture setting and hands-on learning in the clinical environment. It’s all about making the leap from student to professional in patient care, and I’ve definitely learned a lot along the way.
Throughout the course, students work on several assignments that help us shape our future nursing careers, such as writing a philosophy of nursing paper, building our resume, creating a professional progress summary, and preparing for the NCLEX exam. Everything from this class and others in the nursing program gets showcased in my ePortfolio. One of my favorite assignments was the philosophy of nursing, where I really got to reflect on why I want to be a nurse and what drives me in this profession.

During the clinical portion of the class, I had the opportunity to complete 180 clinical hours in the Perioperative and Post Anesthesia Care unit. This was especially exciting because I want to begin my career in Operating Room nursing. I had the chance to care for patients before and after their surgeries, which was an experience unlike any other!

This clinical rotation gave me amazing hands-on experience in Preoperative and Post Anesthesia Care. I learned a lot about patient assessments, surgical prep, and post-op care, which really deepened my interest in Operating Room nursing. It also helped me build great connections in the healthcare system. I'm excited and more confident about moving forward, knowing this experience will make me a strong applicant for OR nursing.
